What is Design Thinking? 10 Ideas To Consider
Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 4:26PM Browsing on the Design Thinking Exchange, I found a list of 7 explanations of Design Thinking. I took the liberty of adjusting them with my editorial red marker (shown in CAPS for visual speed in identifying my own thoughts). I also added 3 more for an even 10. Please get out your best copy editing tools, and comment or re-word my "clarifications" below. I'll follow up with a post amending these with your best ideas.
Design Thinking...
- is mining and extracting the essence of all key Design disciplines TO SOLVE PROBLEMS FOR BUSINESS AND/OR PROVIDE GREATER CUSTOMER VALUE.
- Is using its inherent process of thinking, ASSOCIATING and solving as a conscious tool to teach how to innovate.
- Induces and elicits cross-pollination of creativities from different disciplines with different objectives FOR A SHARED PURPOSE - THE CUSTOMER NEED.
- ASSOCIATES, Interprets and displays data, information and knowledge generated through Integrative Thinking.
- Designs BUSINESS, PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY platforms that allow for the creation of contextual clarity between left and right brain thinking. The results generate communal sense-making.
- Calibrates the level of understanding between participants from similar or opposing disciplines TO GIVE BUSINESS OWNERS AND CUSTOMERS DEEPER INPUT INTO THE CREATIVE PROCESS.
- Manages the creative capital of ALL disciplines under one governing intelligence.
- LOOKS AT THE TOTAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE DESIRED AND DEVELOPS AN END TO END JOURNEY TO PROVIDE THAT EXPERIENCE
- ENABLES EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS BETWEEN CUSTOMERS AND BRANDS
- IS ABOUT TAKING AN INTEGRATIVE APPROACH TO PROBLEM SOLVING, NOT HIRING MORE PEOPLE WHO HAVE A GRAPHIC OR INDUSTRIAL ARTS DEGREE.
